Ballet Performance Workshops

In 2019 we will be offering several levels of Ballet Performance Workshop Saturdays from 2:00-3:00 p.m. This is a unique opportunity for adult ballet students to learn classical ballet choreography that they will perform at our Spring Dance Festival June 7/8/9. Sessions will include:

  • Jan 5-Feb 2 (5 weeks) Mixed Level Ballet PW with Aaron Renteria
  • Feb 9-March 9 (5 weeks) Beginning Ballet PW with Brennen Renteria
  • March 16-April 20 (6 weeks) Intermediate Ballet PW With Aaron Renteria
  • April 27 – May 4 (two weeks) refresher classes for Beginning Ballet PW with Brennen Renteria
  • May 11-June 1 (4 weeks) refresh/polish all pieces

As noted above, the sessions will have two different choreographers: Aaron Renteria who is a company member at Joffrey Ballet, and his brother Brennen Renteria who is a long-time GDS teacher who also has an extensive ballet background. You can read more about both of theses fantastic teacher on our Teacher Page.

In each session students will learn one longer choreographed piece. The final four weeks will be used as needed to put everything together for performance at the GDS Spring Dance Festival which will be at Indian Boundary Park June 7/8/9.  There will also be a dress rehearsal at Indian Boundary Park on Sunday, June 2.  You must be available to perform in the Spring Dance Festival to participate in these classes.

There is no warm-up as part of the class; students are encouraged to take the previous class (Beginning Ballet) as a warm-up, or to come early to warm-up on their own. Also, these are not drop-in classes — students should plan to attend all classes in their session. For example, if you plan to do the Beginning level PW you should plan to be there Feb 9 through March 9 and April 27 through May 4, and as needed May 11 through June 1. That being said, it is okay to come to the first class of each session to check it out before deciding to commit! Also, if you do need to miss one class of the session that is okay, but more than one class would be difficult.

Normal class fees apply for Ballet Performance Workshop. Classes will be limited to a maximum of eight students; you can register by signing up for the first class of the session you are interested in.  Click here to sign-up online.

We hope you will join us for this fun opportunity! If you have any questions please email us at info@glenwooddancestudio.com.
